A Mamelodi Sundowns star is set to have attracted interest from Belgian side Club Brugge as per the latest.

With all their incomings over the years, Sundowns’ outgoings are set to be equally important in the next transfer window.

Despite already cruising in the DStv Premiership, Sundowns were the most active side in the January window. The Brazilians already had a nine-point gap on second-placed Cape Town City, with three games in hand at the time. That did not stop them from pursuing a squad boost ahead of the second half of the season. Of course for them, they also have to factor in continental commitments with hopes of a Club FIFA World Cup.

Now, with that on the horizon, Sundowns went and signed the Likes of Zukho Mdunyelwa and Matias Esquivel. Then, when everybody thought that they had strengthened enough, they added Thembinkosi Lorch and Tashreeq Matthews. The Rulani Mokwena-led side is showing no signs of slowing down on the transfer market ahead of next season. The South African News already understands that Masandawana has wrapped up a deal to sign Jayden Adams from Stellenbosch FC.

But as Sundowns continue to pinpoint their targets for the next window, they will have to make room. That means a large chunk of the squad will have to be removed to usher in a refreshed, younger squad. The club currently have quite a few players on loan, with about eight senior players in the DStv Premiership

Chiefs were interested in Ighodaro

One of those players is Etiosa Ighodaro who has been loaned out to Sundowns’ Tshwane rivals SuperSport United. The Nigerian striker seems keen for a permanent move after various temporary deals. Last season, it was even claimed that rivals Kaizer Chiefs looking to test Masandawana’s resolve for the player.

According to Soccer-Laduma, however, there will be no Chiefs move, with Club Brugge interested in taking Ighodaro from Sundowns.

Brugge is now interested in signing him from Sundowns

“Club Brugge are serious about him. They have inquired about him since their top striker (Thiago) is leaving at the end of the season. They have identified Ighodaro as the rightful replacement for them. I can’t go into details but a deal could be done in the off season if the clubs agree on their demands. It could be a good move for the player and Sundowns could make a few million in the deal as it stands,” said a source to the publication.

It remains to be seen if Sundowns will finally decide to integrate Ighodaro into their squad or end up selling.
