Chiefs are kissing many frogs, but who’s their prince?

Since Stuart Baxter won Amakhosi’s last piece of silverware in 2015, the club has made 11 separate appointments. Steve Komphela, Patrick Mabedi, Giovanni Solinas, Ernst Middendorp, Gavin Hunt, Arthur Zwane, a return for Baxter, a return for Zwane, Molefi Ntseki, Cavin Johnson and now Nasreddine Nabi have all been at the helm. None have delivered league title success to the demanding fans at Naturena.

Chiefs haven’t contested a title race since 2020

Hunt has been there, done that, got the T-shirt

The legendary Gavin Hunt has presided over four Betway Premiership title-winning seasons. Incredibly, he did so with Bidvest Wits in 2016-2017, also claiming MTN8 success that year. Wits are the last side not called Mamelodi Sundowns to win the title in South Africa. If anybody can disrupt their utter dominance, it’s this man.

Sundowns next

The Brazilians hold a commanding 12-point lead over their only credible challengers for the title, Orlando Pirates. The Buccaneers have three games in hand, but recent history suggests that Sundowns will have enough in the tank. This coming weekend, Pirates fans will temporarily wear their Chiefs hats and hope the Glamour Boys can take points off the runaway leaders. Kickoff between Sundowns and Chiefs is on Saturday 01 March at 15:30.
