Mamelodi Sundowns reject and Kaizer Chiefs target Lesedi Kapinga is close to joining Orlando Pirates if media reports doing the rounds are anything to go by.

A social media post going viral suggests that the former Sundowns and Black Leopards star is set to find a new football home in Soweto with Pirates.

Kapinga recently parted ways with Sundowns after seeing his contract not renewed at Chloorkop and has also been linked with Pirates bitter rivals, Kaizer Chiefs.

According to Rush Sports On on Twitter, Pirates are closing in on the creative attacker who recently featured for Bafana Bafana in the COSAFA Cup tournament in Durban.

The latest information comes after The South African recently published that Kapinga’s agent said his client was enjoying himself at Bafana camp.

This publication reported that after struggling for regular game time at Chloorkop, Kapinga left the Sundowns camp ahead of the new season.

His agent confirmed that Kapinga was released by the reigning DStv Premiership champions, Sundowns just before the end of June.

Kapinga failed to cement his place in the star-studded Sundowns squad and the club opted against exercising the option on his contract.

The player himself has explained to the club he would love to join a club of his choice against the backdrop of struggling for playing opportunities at Masandawana.

Kapinga said he wants to join a club that will appreciate his talents, admitting that things didn’t work for him at Sundowns.

“I leave that to my agent, and I will speak to him maybe from Monday when I get to Joburg,” said Kapinga as per Times Live.

“I feel like right now it’s only a matter of me getting in a space where I’m going to play and want a team that is going to appreciate me.

“Sometimes it’s good not to know a lot of things about it. If Sundowns works for other players, it doesn’t mean it will work for me. I just must focus on my career and build myself again.”

In his three-year spell with last season’s CAF Champions League semi-finalists, Kapinga made 39 appearances, chipped in with seven assists, and netted four times across all competitions.
