Former Orlando Pirates coach returns ‘home’ for second spell!
Having left Orlando Pirates at the end of last season, the 44-year-old coach is back in football to do what he loves the most.
Former Orlando Pirates assistant coach Sergio Almenara has returned to a club he calls home for his second spell.
Almenara has officially rejoined Finnish outfit FC Inter Turku as their Head of Scouting just a few months after leaving Pirates.
This was confirmed by FC Inter Turku on their website whilst also revealing what Almenara’s job entails.
FC Inter Turku is a familiar territory to Almenara as he worked alongside current Pirates coach Jose Riveiro between 2019 and 2021.
This was before the duo moved to South Africa to join the Buccaneers as unknown coaches to local fans.

“Inter have signed contracts with Sergio Almenara and Jyrki Ahola to significantly strengthen the club’s scouting operations. Sergio Almenara took up his duties as head of scouting and Jyrki Ahola as scout at the beginning of January,” said the club on its website.
“Strengthening scouting is part of Inter’s strategic development work, which aims to increase competitiveness. The club has recognized the need to invest significantly more in scouting, and the investments made support the club’s goals.”
“Sergio Almenara, who started as Head of Player Observation, brings strong expertise in analytics and scouting methods. In addition to player observation tasks, his responsibilities include applying analytics in other areas, such as supporting team performance and player development.
“He has previously worked at Inter as assistant coach to José Riveiro and in player development roles. The coaching duo, familiar to Inter fans from 2019-2021, also worked together at South Africa’s Orlando Pirates before Almenara returned to Finland last summer. Almenara’s return to Inter is an important part of the club’s development work.”
