Chelsea No 10 Mykhaylo Mudryk has divided opinion among fans and pundits since his move to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues squeaked through the Europa Conference League playoffs with a 3-2 aggregate win over Servette FC.

Having won the first leg at home 2-0, Chelsea were put into a comfortable position when Christopher Nkunku converted a penalty in the 14th minute to establish a three-goal buffer.

Servette didn’t give up on the tie though and managed to claw back two goals on the night, playing the last 20 or so minutes hunting a goal to take the tie into extra time but just coming up short.

Mudryk was a player that supporters singled out for criticism for his efforts in Geneva.

Under the glare of European lights, Mudryk made four big errors across the game but it should be noted that on the whole his performance wasn’t as bad as the huge mistakes taken in isolation,

He was energetic in making runs with the ball and got into positions to test the Servette defence and goalkeeper.

Some fans questioned whether the left wing was the best place for Mudryk while others believe he simply isn’t of the standard that a club like Chelsea demands.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca also revealed that he has been speaking frequently with Mudryk since arriving at the club.

The coach says that Mudryk knows what is expected of him and knows that there is competition for starting places in this squad: “I have spoken with Misha since we started less than two months ago already five or six times.

“I didn’t speak to Misha after Wolves, I think Misha is very intelligent and he can understand the reason why we changed.

“It was just to try to change something, but nothing more than that. I was a player for 20 years and, when the manager changes you, most of the time you know very well why. As I said, Misha is intelligent and I think he can understand.
