Orlando Pirates are in action on Friday evening in the all-important second leg of their First Preliminary Round tie of the CAF Champions League against Madagascar’s Disciples.

The fixture in Orlando, Soweto is a must-win as the tie hangs in the balance after the opening leg played at Côte d’Or National Sports Complex in Mauritius ended all square. A scoring draw will see the Buccaneers crash out of the competition while a goalless draw will result in a penalty shoot-out.

Having failed to score away, Orlando Pirates are now at risk of getting eliminated in the CAF CL preliminary rounds again. Should Disciples score, Jose Riveiro‘s me will need to score twice to go through to the second round.

New Bucs signings Deano van Rooyen and Gilberto could make their official debuts after sitting out the trip to Mauritius. With the likes of Tshegofatso Mabasa and Relebohile Mofokeng firing blanks, perhaps Gilberto might be the man for big occasions.

Orlando Pirates under pressure ahead of their CAF CL match

Pirates will be looking to keep yet another cup run alive by seeing off Disciples, with the hopes of lining up against one of African Stars and Jwaneng Galaxy for a spot in the group stage. Galaxy eliminated the Buccaneers in last year’s CAF CL preliminary rounds following a penalty shootout.

The game kicks off at 19:30 and will be televised live on SABC Plus. Live updates for the CAF CL match will be shared across Orlando Pirates social media channels.

Can Pirates find a way to reach the second round?
