Bafana Bafana vs Uganda: What time is kickoff?
All you need to know, Bafana fans.
Bafana Bafana meet Uganda on Friday. Here are all the details as Kaizer Chiefs star Rushwin Dortley eyes a full international debut.
Bafana Bafana meet Uganda in crunch Afcon qualifier
Bafana vs Uganda on Friday 06 September kicks off at 18:00. This is the opening clash in Group K of Afcon qualifiers. Congo and South Sudan are also vying for slots in the showpiece alongside Bafana and Uganda’s Cranes. Hugo Broos has stressed the importance of a strong start:
I think it’s very important that when you play qualifiers you have a good start. When you have a good start, you put pressure on your opponents. When you don’t, it’s just the opposite. We have to try to avoid that.”
This match will be broadcast on both SuperSport and SABC Sport channels. Tickets to the opening qualifier are on sale at all TicketPro outlets and South African Football Association (SAFA) President Dr Danny Jordaan and CEO Lydia Monyepao have continued to urge fans to come out in numbers and support the team.
Dortley will be a star for club and country
Rushwin Dortley has made a massive impression already and he’s not yet kicked a competitive ball for the Glamour Boys. A marquee R10 million arrival from Cape Town Spurs, the stylish left-footed ball-playing central defender could feature for Hugo Broos’ men here and against South Sudan on 10 September.
The big investment in his services could end up being a bargain and he could be a serious asset for South African football in years to come.
Will Blom be in the next Broos squad?
Njabulo Blom has won only a single cap for his country, and that was way back in September 2021 against Ghana when he got 13 minutes as a substitute. He’s been in the international wilderness ever since, playing his club football in the United States with MLS side St. Louis City since the end of 2022. Just under three years is a long time in football. If this season-long loan spell goes well for the 24-year-old, he could force his way back into Hugo Broos’ plans. It’s a low-risk move by Chiefs, and it’s certainly one that has appeased the fans.
