The Vodacom Blue Bulls have thanked Gauteng rugby fans for helping sell out the match between the Tshwane outfit, and the DHL Stormers in the 2023/24 Vodacom United Rugby Championship.

The two played in front of 51,700 supporters on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulls ran out 40-22 victors at the packed Loftus Stadium.

Edgar Rathbone, Chief Executive of the BBCo. applauded rugby fans for helping make this a historic fixture in the tournament’s calendar.

“This is a special feat that rugby fans in the province have helped us achieve, a wonderful step for the competition and another milestone for South African rugby,” he said.

“On behalf of the entire Vodacom [Blue] Bulls family, I wish to thank each every one of the 51700 fans who have purchased a ticket. You have made the right decision for an unrivalled Sportainment experience, I know that the events team cannot wait to welcome you all to our stadium for a fun time for the whole family,”

“We have now set the bar and I am counting on them to do the same in future fixtures, starting with the Champions Cup round of 16 clash where it will be South Africa against France when we welcome Lyon to our fortress,” says Rathbone.

Duhan van der Merwe: Blue Bulls primary focus

Martin Anayi, Vodacom United Rugby Championship CEO, said ‘there is no bigger rugby game taking place on the planet this weekend and a sell-out crowd is befitting for a clash of these giant clubs’.

“Huge credit goes to the Vodacom Bulls, the DHL Stormers, Vodacom, SuperSport and all the other stakeholders who collaborated to promote this game. It takes the title as the second-highest ever attendance for a single game in the league’s history. It should be one hell of a spectacle,” he said in a statement.

The Blue Bulls will next face the Welsh Dragons in three weeks.
