As is customary at this long-standing festival, the hosts play the opening game. Unfortunately for them, they came up against a ruthless Bishops side who produced a faultless performance on their way to a 66-3 win.
Bishops had seven different try-scorers for their 10 touchdowns, with wing Lucca Mynhardt getting a hat-trick. There was to be so such fortunes for Saints, who failed to score a single try against Bishops’ suffocating defence.
Elsewhere, Kingswood hammered Clifton 45-12 after Vizi Lebase scored three tries, Wynberg took down Helpmekaar 20-12, Michaelhouse sealed a 29-22 win over St Andrew’s and St John’s from Harare in Zimbabwe pipped St Alban’s 29-23.
