In their opening Pool A match on Saturday, the Blitzboks were blanked 19-0 by Australia.
They then went on to beat Hong Kong, but ‘only’ by a score of 31-12.

By contrast, the All Blacks and Wallabies hammered Hong Kong 47-0 and 48-0, respectively.
The Blitzboks then lost 12-7 to New Zealand to finish third in the pool.
Blitzboks up against Ireland next
They will now face a fifth-eighth place playoff match against Ireland at 05:56 (SA time) on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the All Blacks will take on Great Britain (07:24 SA time) in the Cup quarter-finals while Australia will face Argentina (06:40 SA time).
