Baby Proteas netball squad announced for Spar Challenge
A 15-member Baby Proteas squad has been selected for next month’s Spar Challenge in Cape Town.
South Africa’s first netball event this year will be the Spar Challenge scheduled to take place between 24-31 March.
Netball South Africa has confirmed the players who will represent the Under-21 Spar Baby Proteas at the Spar Challenge under the leadership of head coach Dr Elsje Jordaan and assistant coach Precious Mthembu.
Kailah Ferreira; Boitumelo Mahloko; Kamogelo Maseko; Sinethemba Maseko; Mbalenhle Ntuli; Refiloe Nketsa; Nicola Oosthuizen; Nobuhle Sibisi; Nicola Smith; Rolene Streutker; Lucy Strydom; Adivhaho Tshivhiahuvhi; Chanel Vrey; Elmeré van der Berg; Jamie van Wyk.
The team will be further supported by Lana Krige (technical coach), Edna Dolamo (team manager) and Robyn Phillips (physiotherapist).
The purpose of this squad is to test player combinations on court in preparation for the Netball World Youth Cup taking place in Fiji in December.
The tournament in Fiji was initially slated for June, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic it has been rescheduled for December.
International Netball Federation President, Liz Nicholl, said,
“The tournament is the pinnacle of competition for emerging players and provides a pathway for developing elite players, coaches and match officials.”
Netball South Africa president Cecilia Molokwane confirmed that the Spar Proteas, President’s XII, SPAR Baby Proteas (Under-21), Uganda, Namibia and Uganda under-21 national teams will be participating at the 2021 SPAR Challenge.
The SPAR Proteas squad has already been announced.
The teams will assemble for a pre-training camp from 19-23 March.
Broadcast schedules, fixtures and the playing venue will be announced as soon as possible.
