Nabi concurs with Broos about the lack of quality at Kaizer Chiefs

Hugo Broos did not name any Kaizer Chiefs players in the recent Bafana Bafana camp and head coach Nasreddine Nabi chose not to dispute that.

Hugo Broos announced the Bafana Bafana squad that participated in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. In the squad, there were no Kaizer Chiefs players, which is something that’s not new.

This also happened in the 2023 AFCON which took place in Morocco, where there were no Kaizer Chiefs players as Bafana Bafana finished third in the tournament.

Hugo Broos States One Kaizer Chiefs Player Has Caught His Eye

Thabo Cele, who recently joined Kaizer Chiefs in the January transfer window, has shown stellar performances already in his short spell at Naturena. These displays have caught the attention of Hugo Broos, who believes he is close to being called up to the national team.

However, the Bafana Bafana head coach has stated that Kaizer Chiefs players are still struggling for form.

“You can’t tell that Chiefs already is back. I thought [they were] maybe at the beginning of the season,” Broos spoke.

“But I don’t know what happened because they are still struggling. And I saw them yesterday [last week Wednesday], playing against Cape Town City FC; you can’t say that everything is alright in that team.

“When the team is better, and players play better, surely we will call up players from Chiefs.

“But for the moment, I don’t think that I have to call them because they are really struggling in the league and let’s hope that not only for Chiefs but for all South African football that next year, they are again that team that big team…[that] fight for the championship.” The coach lamented.

Kaizer Chiefs are currently in 8th place on the DSTV Premiership table. Nabi did not disagree with Broos after these comments were made.

Nasreddine Nabi Confident Thabo Cele Will Join Bafana Bafana Soon

The midfielder has been tipped to potentially be in the next Bafana Bafana camp, at the end of the season.

“We have to respect the choices and the decisions of the national team coach,” Nasreddine Nabi spoke.

“[Because] he’s the one who makes the choices which doesn’t take away our feeling that Thabo Cele is a very good player.

“And we hope that in the future he will go back to the national team. We know that by working hard that time will come.” He added.
