Dricus du Plessis and Sean Strickland are set for a titanic and brutal rematch in the Octagon.
“Hulle weet nee wat ons weet” trended across South Africa as Dricus du Plessis and the Springboks conquered the world. This translates to “they don’t know what we (South Africans) know“.
Thereafter, Dricus passionately and triumphantly exclaimed “Nou hulle weet!” after winning the UFC middleweight championship. A historic and empowering moment felt throughout the nation as he became South Africa’s first UFC champion. Now, almost one year later he must step up in the octagon for a rematch against his old foe – Strickland. So, what time does this ferocious battle start?
DRICUS VS STRICKLAND – THE REMATCH
In the first encounter back in January 2024, Dricus fought back with the sheer grit and ‘gees’ that South Africa has become world-renowned for.
Du Plessis split his eye open in the opening rounds. Meaning, he had to fight with his vision impaired in one eye as it swelled up. Facing a jab expert. However, the determination and character of du Plessis shone through as he managed to win over the judges votes to become the first SA UFC champion.
This did not sit well with Strickland. The American went from being in control early on to losing his title and watching Dricus rise to fame as he fell from glory. Sunday is about more than pride – it is about redemption, the gold, history and the last year for Strickland. Meanwhile, Dricus will want to stamp his authority as the UFC Middleweight champion and to finally put this rivalry to bed.

Given the nature of the sport, no defined kick-off can be given as it depends on the length and outcome of the fights during the much-anticipated UFC 312 event.
