Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has expressed delight and heaped praise on the club for bringing in a quality hitman such as Ranga Chivaviro.

In expressing his delight, Khumalo said he was worried when he read that Chiefs old nemesis Orlando Pirates were also chasing the former Marumo Gallants star, Chivaviro.

The retired fan darling and legend added that he admires the lethal striker and likened him to legends such as Samora Khulu and Marks Maponyane who played for Chiefs in the past.

CHIEFS LEGEND DELIGHTED WITH CHIVAVIRO CAPTURE

‘16V’ as Khumalo is called by Mzansi and Chiefs fans, says Amakhosi used to attract top talents such as the 30-year-old Chivaviro.

Chivaviro has been one of the relegated Gallants in the previous term as he scored 17 times across all competitions.

While the Soweto giants, Chiefs have also signed the likes of Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Mduduzi Mdantsane, and Edson Daniel Castillo among others, it seems Chivaviro has seriously caught Mntungwa’s attention.

“Let’s go to Ranga, the former Marumo striker. I looked at him. I have seen a glimpse of Sugar Muguyo from Zimbabwe,” Khumalo told iDiski Times.

“I used to travel with my dad when the first team was playing. I’ve seen a glimpse of him. I’ve seen a glimpse of the late Moran Samora Khulu.

“I’ve seen Marks Maponyane. I’ve seen Scara Thindwa. I’ve seen Kingston Nkhatha. There are features of most of those strikers within him.

“He’s not a fancy striker and Kaizer Chiefs used to get these kinds of strikers. He is not a fancy striker, but he will always be at the right place at the right time. And the only thing that he wants is to score goals when he’s in the kitchen.”

LEGEND: MIDFIELDERS MUST SUPPLY CHIVAVIRO

The 1996 CAF African Cup of Nations winning legend with Bafana Bafana has called on the midfielders such as Nkosingiphile Ngcobo to supply the new recruit.

He also shared his analysis on the 30-year-old striker, Chivaviro, saying he will do well when the midfielders are playing their part.

As Chiefs look to end the unwanted eight-year trophy drought next season under new coach Molefi Ntseki, Khumalo reveals why he was also hurt to hear that Pirates wanted Ranga.

“So when I saw that Pirates wanted the striker I was a little bit hurt and sceptical that ‘Oh no, we can’t lose this one’.

“But when I saw that we acquired his signature, I was so happy. I need to give it to whoever made it a point that Ranga comes here.

“Believe it or not with a better supply from the midfielders and understanding from the group, from the team this is the player that will resemble all the strikers that I have counted.”
