This year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) will not be screened on South African television after SuperSport failed to secure broadcast rights for the tournament.

SuperSport confirmed the news in a tweet on Thursday, posting: “SuperSport previously held broadcast rights to the IPL. Discussions with the rights holder have unfortunately been unsuccessful and SuperSport will therefore not broadcast the IPL as of this year’s edition.”
Whether the news comes as blow – or a ‘who cares’ – for cricket fans remains to be seen.

The 16th edition of the IPL starts on Friday, 31 March.

As reported by The South African website, a total of 17 South Africans will be representing the 10 teams in this year’s competition.
IPL 2023 WILL FEATURE 74 MATCHES
Friday’s opening match will see the defending champions Gujarat Titans take on the Chennai Super Kings.
The first ball will be bowled at 16:00 (SA time).
In total 74 matches will be played over 58 days with the final scheduled for Sunday, 28 May.
