The Nongoma Regional Court in KwaZulu-Natal has sentenced a 15-year-old boy to 43 years in jail for killing his school principal.

The boy was found guilty of murder, theft of a firearm, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, and robbery with aggravating circumstances. He was sentenced on last Thursday, 21 November.

YOUNG BOY FOUND GUILTY OF MURDER OF SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

KwaZulu-Natal police said on Saturday, 22 April 2023, the teenager robbed and killed Alpheus Mphumuzeni Ntuli, who was 61-years-old at the time.

Ntuli, a school principal at Bhekintinta High School in Nongoma, was reported missing that day. When police drove to a police station from Bhanganoma cottages, where Ntuli was residing, they spotted his vehicle driving along Mkhuze Road. When they approached, the suspect sped off but abandoned the car and fled on foot.

A little later, Ntuli’s body was found dumped near a river bank under a bridge in the Odwaleni area. His body was found with open wounds on the head and bruises all over the body.

“Police traced the suspect to his place of residence at kwaSnqandi in Toyisa area where he was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition which he had stolen from his grandfather. The teenager was arrested and made several court appearances before pleading guilty to all charges, leading to his sentence,” KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said.

13-YEAR-OLD ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED MURDER

In a separate incident in February this year, a 13-year-old learner from Primrose Hill Primary School in Germiston, Gauteng, was arrested for allegedly shooting his principal.

Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona said the school principal saw learners sitting in the foyer and instructed them to take out their workbooks to study.

The Grade six learner allegedly mumbled something in response, but the principal ignored him.

“He saw the learner again later near the staff room, which is when he unfortunately shot him with a firearm,” Mabona explained.
