THE WORST THAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED

Reflecting on the bakkie, the department described the unroadworthy bakkie as an accident waiting to happen.

“If those ropes had to snap, all that metal gets scattered across the road, what was to happen… It is for that reason we have to pay a very special tribute to the motorist who spotted this accident waiting to happen and alerted the officers. Kudos to them for heeding the call and stopping this vehicle. It has been impounded at the Zwelitsha Traffic Station. Disturbingly, the officers said it had no lights on and no number plate,” the department explained in a narrated video clip on social media.

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport further stated that the three men in the vehicle tried to intimidate the officer who was wise enough to call for back up which arrived promptly and they were able to take this moving hazard away from the road.

“By doing that, we may never know how many lives they have saved from this possible danger,” the department concluded.
