WATCH LIVE: Three more suspects appear in connection with Bester escape
Three G4S employees are appearing in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court for allegedly helping convicted rapist Thabo Bester, 37, escape.
Three G4S employees who allegedly aided Thabo Bester’s escape from the Mangaung Correctional Centre (MCC) are appearing in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 28 June.
The 37-year-old escaped from the prison, where he was serving a life sentence for rape and murder, in May 2022. He was arrested in Arusha, Tanzania, on 8 April 2023.

MORE ARRESTS IN THE BESTER ESCAPE CASE
The three G4S suspects were arrested at their homes in Bloemfontein on Monday night. The matter will likely be postponed, and they could be remanded in custody until the nine other accused in the matter return to court on 8 August.

National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the trio would face charges of assisting an inmate to escape from lawful custody, violation of a corpse and corruption, on Wednesday.
The police have also repeatedly said that the possibility of further arrests in the case cannot be ruled out.

Bester and his co-accused last appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on 20 June. The matter was postponed for further investigation.
