Just before midnight on the 30th of March, word finally came through that Zuma had fired both Pravin Gordhan and Mcebisi Jonas. With the Finance and Deputy Finance Ministers out of the picture, public outcry ensued as Zuma had finally gotten what he was after. Former Minister of Home Affairs (and frequent Gupta visitor) Malusi Gigaba has been named as the new finance minister, Gigaba has ZERO experience in any financial sectors of government.

Pravin Gordhan and Mcebisi Jonas this morning held their own press conference in Pretoria. The pair felt that there were “a few things they needed to clarify.”  Both men were given a standing ovation by journalists and supporters who were in attendance.  At the conference Gordhan touched on a variety of issues, he even revealed that he found out he was fired through TV news. Yes folks, that’s right, no phone call or SMS to tell him he was let go, let alone a face to face meeting.

At the press conference, Gordhan called on the people of South Africa to come together, organise and mobilise themselves to take action against the wrong in society, he also reminded people that the voice of many is what makes a difference, not individuals. It was a clear statement, Gordhan and Jonas were calling on the public to help bring change.

Gordhan also posed some questions that South Africans should start to ask themselves, crucially important questions at that.

As the media organisations were asking their questions, Gordhan brought up the issue of ANN7’s coverage of the last few days. He tore into the channel for their use of so-called “independent analysts,” and how they have constantly worked to discredit him.

When asked how he would vote on a motion of no confidence against Zuma, Gordhan said he would “follow his conscience” and “do whatever is right.” Gordhan said that both him and Jonas’ souls “were not for sale.”  Jonas labelled the “so-called”  intelligence report against treasury’s UK trip, nonsense.
