
Three women allegedly robbed by police in Verulam, KZN
A heavily pregnant woman, bride-to-be and an I.T. student were allegedly robbed by two policemen in Verulam CBD KwaZulu-Natal.

Three women were allegedly robbed by two policemen in Verulam, CBD in KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday, 20 January 2025. The trio were robbed of their possessions and money.
WOMEN ROBBED BY POLICEMEN
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), one of the victims said that she and her friends took a taxi to Verulam CBD to withdraw money from an ATM so that she could secure a wig she purchased from her hairstylist.
“The second victim, a bride-to-be was in possession of cash. She intended on shopping for her wedding and the third pregnant female was expected to visit a local clinic for a medical examination,” said RUSA.
After leaving a service station, the women were approached by a white unmarked vehicle. Two men wearing police uniforms told the trio that a robbery occurred at a certain business premises where laptops and cash were stolen.
The two policemen told the women that they matched the description of the suspects.
“The females were instructed to accompany the SAPS Officials to the business for a pointing out by the robbery victim. As they drove towards Remple Valley, the front passenger asked the woman to hand over their handbags,” explained RUSA.
In the bags, there was more than R13 000 worth of cash, two iPhones, a Nokia cellphone and a weave valued at R2500. The suspects then dumped the women on the side of the road in Temple Valley.
The trio was left unharmed.
55-YEAR-OLD WOMAN ROBBED AT KNIFEPOINT
A woman (55) was robbed at knifepoint by an unknown suspect in Brindhaven, KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday, 19 March 2025.
The 55-year-old woman was robbed R400 while on her way to the SASSA office when she was walking through a shortcut from Inanda Road.
On other robbery woes, an employee of Masakhane Girls High School in Hazelmere, KZN was robbed of a mobile phone on Wednesday, 19 March 2025. The employee said that the suspect was outside the school premises when he produced a knife and a handgun, robbing him of his Samsung C20 mobile phone.
The suspect fled the scene and could not be located.
CRIME STATISTICS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu released the third quarter crime statistics in February 2025. In the report, when compared to the crime statistics from 1 October 2023 to 31 December 2023, there was a decline in several crime categories. There was a 9.8% decrease in murder cases, a 3.3% decrease in rape cases, a 3.2% reduction in attempted sexual offences and a decline in carjackings and robberies in residential areas.
