Three arrested in connection with Lusikisiki mass murder
18 people who were preparing for a traditional ritual to mark the end of mourning were brutally murdered in Lusikisiki recently.
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has confirmed that three people have been arrested in connection with the mass murder in Lusikisiki where 18 people were gunned down.
Mchunu confirmed the news on Sunday, 6 October during the memorial service of the 18 victims.
THREE NABBED FOR LUSIKISIKI MASS MURDER
Two homesteads in the same street in Ngobozana village in Lusikisiki, were targeted in the early hours on Saturday, 28 September, leaving 17 people dead. The 18th victim, who was in a critical condition has also passed away in hospital.
According to the police, the victims were preparing for a traditional ritual to mark the end of mourning for a mother and daughter who were also murdered a year ago.
In the first homestead, four people were shot and killed, with no survivors. In the second homestead, there were 19 people in two different houses in the same yard. Thirteen people were shot and killed,” police said.
In total 15 women and two men were killed. Fortunately, five people, including a two-month-old baby, survived the attack.
On Sunday, Mchunu confirmed the arrests and lauded the work done by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) led by national police commissioner Fannie Masemola.
Mchunu also confirmed that the person of interest who was being questioned has been released.
