Suspect arrested in connection with murder of Teboho Joala
Rand Water executive Teboho Joala and his body guard were gunned down at a back-to-school event in Johannesburg.
Gauteng police have arrested a suspect in connection with the brutal murder of Rand Water executive Teboho Joala.
Joala was shot in full view of learners at a back-to-school event in Zakariyya Park, south of Johannesburg, in January.Â
SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED MURDER OF TEBOHO JOALA
Gauteng Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni confirmed that the suspect was arrested in Thokoza, Soweto.Â
Mthombeni said during the arrest, police confiscated a firearm believed to be linked to the crime, providing crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation.
HOW WAS THE RAND WATER EXECUTIVE KILLED?
As previously reported by The South African, the back-to-school event was hosted at Zakariyya Park Community Hall.Â
Approximately 75 learners from Lehae Primary School, Olifantsvlei Primary School, Moses Marne Missions Technical School, and Elethu Themba Public School attended.
Unknown gunmen opened fire and shot three people at the event, including the ward councillor and the City of Johannesburg ANC Chief Whip Sithembiso Zungu. Two people were certified dead and were identified as Teboho Joala and his bodyguard.
Fortunately, no learner or staff was injured during the incident despite having witnessed it unfold.
Following the brutal murder, the Democratic Alliance (DA) called for the swift arrest of the perpetrators.
DA public safety spokesperson in the City of Johannesburg Michael Sun, condemned the incident’s disturbing nature.
