Spaza shops are well known to be located in very convenient areas around townships, saving you a trip to a large retailer. Apart from the usual chips, sweets and bread you can find in-store, one spaza shop carries a brand you least expect… Woolworths.

REAL OR FAKE WOOLIES MILK?

In a video on social media, the Woolworths-branded long-life milk is seen on the shop’s shelves. When a worker is asked about where they got the milk, he appears to smirk and remains quiet.

In response to the post after being flagged by another user, the giant retailer says it’s best to shop in-store for its grocery items.

“We totally recommend buying our goodies straight from us. That way, you’re guaranteed top-notch awesomeness.”

WARNING AGAINST SPAZA SHOPS

In recent weeks, political parties and government have warned about purchasing grocery items from illegal spaza shop.

This follows a spate of deaths and cases of food poisoning in recent weeks.

The illegally owned stores have been accused of selling counterfeit or expired goods to the public at cheaper prices.

Consumers have been urged to report spaza shops that they suspect of selling fake and expired goods to their municipality’s health inspectors’ offices.
