South Africa is not a failed state, but urgent action is needed. Mmusi Maimane
Things aren’t as bad as some would think, but the DA leader admits that change needs to come immediately if we’re to save Mzanzi and he has three key focus points that could achieve this.
Maimane, who has been on the war path ever since taking over the reins from Helen Zille, has made it clear that South Africa is not a failed state. While much needs to be done in saving us from the current economic slide, the DA maintains that all is not lost, according to News24.
“The DA does not share the views of some who say that South Africa is becoming a failed state. But we do not have the luxury of time to get things right and fix our economy so that it creates the jobs required. South Africa requires a government that is committed to building a better future for all South Africans. And only the DA can form such a government.”
With local government elections coming up next year and three of SA’s major metro’s in the DA’s line of sight, the party seems to have gone into PR overdrive in securing enough votes to take Johannesburg, Pretoria and Nelson Mandela Bay away from the ANC.
So, how does Maimane plan on saving the nation from economic collapse? Simple really, the DA has three key focus areas that they believe will turn the tide, and they’re pretty big challenges.
- Dealing with SA’s unemployment crisis .
- Breaking Eskom’s monopoly on electricity through sustainable power initiatives.
- Clamping down on corruption by targeting Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla homestead as SA’s core symbol of corruption.
While bringing about real economic and social change in South Africa won’t be easy, the DA believes that it is the only party able to do it. It won’t happen overnight though…
“Despite our numerous problems, South Africa has the people to make this country great. What we need is a government that unleashes the potential of our people so that we can build a better future and make this country a dynamic, innovative beacon of hope for the developing world,” said Maimane.
