The world’s safest countries
More and more travellers are starting to choose travel destinations that are known for their safety. To assist with this, Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection (BHTP) recently released their 2025 ranking of the world’s safest countries to visit.
As reported by Getaway, the rankings are based on traveller surveys, global safety indices, as well as city-specific data, which help to create a balanced picture of safety worldwide. These lists. of course, don’t account for sudden crises or regional instability – so it’s still important to stay informed and prepared when planning a trip.
The top 15
According to the ranking, Iceland was the number one safest country to travel to in 2025, with Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection saying:
“The country has one major road, and it’s never crowded. Logic dictates that it’s hard to have traffic accidents if you don’t have traffic.”
Second on the world’s safest countries list was Australia, ranked by Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection because:
“Australia’s far enough away from anywhere that any resident probably has a good reason for being there. Those types of places have traditionally had little crime.”
Completing the top three was Canada, with BHTP revealing that this country was chosen for its safety because of:
“A dispersed population. Canada places ninth among the world’s countries for the lowest population density. It’s hard to have crime if you don’t have victims or perpetrators.”
Here’s the full list of countries:
- Iceland
- Australia
- Canada
- Ireland
- Switzerland
- New Zealand
- Germany
- Norway
- Japan
- Denmark
- Portugal
- Spain
- United Kingdom
- Netherlands
