Pretoria motorists have been cautioned to avoid certain roads around the CBD on Friday due to a march by the National Union of Metal workers of South Africa (NUMSA).

WHY NUMSA MEMBERS ARE MARCHING

NUMSA members from all three agencies responsible for the running of the City of Tshwane’s A Re Yeng BRT system will be marching to Tshwane House to demand transport allowance.

“Transport allowance is a burning issue for our members at Tshwane Rapid Transit (TRT), Tshwane Affected Operation Investment (TAOI) and Xtremetec.

“Workers at Xtremetec are currently on strike to demand transport allowance and other demands. The three agencies fall under A Re Yeng and provides services,”

Jerry Morulane NUMSA Hlanganani Regional Secretary said.

TAOI is responsible for running the stations, TRT is responsible for drivers and running busses and Extremetec is responsible for operating the Automated Fare Collection System for City Tshwane Metro bus and TRT bus Services.

Morulane said the City of Tshwane is managing the entire project and NUMSA represents the majority of workers that is why they will be marching to Tshwane House to hand over a list of demands and grievances.

NUMSA apologised to the public in advance for any inconvenience the march might cause.

Tshwane Metro Police Department spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said marchers will gather from 09:30 at the open space in Madiba Street and Kgosi Mampuru Street.

  • Kgosi Mampuru Street
  • Sophie De Bruyn Street
