Rand Water notices slight decrease in consumption

Rand Water is seemingly impressed with consumers who have heeded its call to reduce high water consumption.

RAND WATER NOTES DECREASE IN WATER CONSUMPTION IN GAUTENG METROS

This week, the bulk water supplier, indicated that it has noticed a slight decrease in consumption.

In a brief statement, Rand Water said technical meetings between Rand Water and the Gauteng Metros City of Ekurhuleni, The City of Tshwane, and Johannesburg Water continue to take place daily.

“Due to technical interventions that are discussed during these meetings and implemented by the technical teams in their respective metros, all systems that are supplied by Rand Water in the Gauteng Metros remain stable.

“In addition, Rand Water has noticed a slight decrease in consumption although not significant to place the Metros’ at their required target levels,” the bulk supplier explained.

CUSTOMERS URGED TO CONTINUE REDUCING USAGE

Although the systems are still stable, the bulk supplier implores the metros to continue monitoring consumers’ water consumption to ensure equitable supply and provisions to all.

LIST OF MUNICIPALITIES WITH POOR PAYMENT PLANS

According to spokesperson Makenosi Maroo, the payment patterns have deteriorated to concerning levels that threaten the liquidity, financial performance, and sustainability of the bulk supplier.

“Despite our relentless efforts to accommodate this ongoing pattern of non-payment through bilateral engagements and participation in Intergovernmental Relations forums, we have regrettably reached a stalemate,” she explained.

The following non-performing municipalities are contributing to this long-overdue debt:

1. Lesedi Local Municipality in Gauteng – total: R48 476 180.41
2. RandWest City Local Municipality in Gauteng – total: R483 336 982.72
3. Merafong City Local Municipality in Gauteng – total: R763 737 343.74
4. Victor Khanye Local Municipality in Mpumalanga – total: R356 668 518.06
5. Ngwathe Local Municipality in Free State – total: R61 407 584.18
