Orlando Pirates are set to continue to bolster both their senior and youth structures during the current transfer window.

Pirates have signed four players thus far, with some younger players supplementing the first team as well.

Youngsters getting a look in

Coach Jose Riveiro showed during the pre-season that he isn’t afraid to give youngsters a chance. Amongst those that got a chance to travel with the first team to Spain were Mohau Nkota, Dimpho Madalane and goalkeepers Siyabonga Dladla and Bayanda Zulu. In the past the likes of Boitumelo Radiopane have also been involved and the latest being Relebohile Mofokeng. There seems to be real encouragement of a pathway to the senior team for the Pirates DDC stars.

From the outside looking in, that could also be Pirates’ way of enticing the best young talent to join them. One of those players who is reportedly close to joining their youth structures is 17-year-old Sibusiso Tau. The midfielder is believed to have already said his goodbyes to his people in Witbank ahead of the move. According to KickOff.com he was spotted during the Pirates Cup this year.

Tau next at Pirates?

“He (Tau) is a top player in Witbank. Pirates look to have made a great signing. He is a midfielder. The player can defend and attack. He is brave on the field for his age. They have been following his progress since the Pirates Cup. Sekhukhune United were also interested, but it appears they’ve been beaten to his signature. One of Dr. [Irvin] Khoza’s sons has been making hard efforts to secure his services in Witbank. He arrived in Johannesburg on Monday,” said the source.

Owner of Tau’s club in Witbank Emalahleni United, Mandla Bodibe confirmed he was heading to Johannesburg. He stopped short of saying he was signing for Pirates, however.

“I can only confirm that the boy (Tau) has left for Johannesburg. He deserves the next stage of his soccer career. He is one of the top talents we have on the team. Our main ambition is to develop and hopefully, more of our youngsters will move to PSL teams soon,” said Bodibe,
