Orlando Pirates favourites to beat Kaizer Chiefs for signing of Basadien

With Innocent Maela set to leave Orlando Pirates at the end of the season, it looks like Fawaaz Basadien might be the next target.

Orlando Pirates are more likely to sign Stellenbosch FC superstar Fawaaz Basadien.

The 28-year-old left-back was linked to Kaizer Chiefs last year but the move failed to materialise. With the Buccaneers likely to part ways with experienced left-back Innocent Maela at the end of the season.

With one left-back leaving the club, it makes more room for the likes of Fawaaz Basadien to join Orlando Pirates. With Deano van Rooyen having joined the Buccaneers from Stellies, it might tempt Basadien to also join the Sea Robbers.

Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker has applauded his left-back, having become a regular for the national team.

“He’s a classy footballer, so he doesn’t get flustered by too many things,” he said on Basadien. “He trusts in his ability, and he’s comfortable on the ball, and his defending has improved a lot over the years, having played as a wing and as a number 10 in his younger career. So, ja, he’s got good all-around ability, strong in the air, both, attacking and defensively.”

Orlando Pirates could sign Basadien next season

“He’s a good set-piece taker and a good quality provider of the ball. So ja, he has all attributes, so we’re not surprised at all,” Steve Barker said on his most prized star.

Which team will Basadien join?
