A video of a man wearing a swastika symbol has gone viral. The Swastika symbol was worn by a man while he was enjoying his meal at a Wimpy restaurant in Fleurdal Mall, Bloemfontein.

Twitter user @kanyamofokeng posted two videos on June 22. She had also posted a video of the swastika flag flown outside of Bloemfontein.

@kanyamofokeng can be heard asking if the man’s swastika symbol was allowed in the video.

β€œHe’s just chilling and eating like there is nothing wrong with the attire.”

She also described seeing the man wearing the swastika symbol as scary.

Swastika as a symbol of Nazi Germany

The Swastika became infamous during Nazi Germany. The leader, Adolf Hitler used the symbol for theNational Socialist German Workers’ Party, or more commonly called the Nazi Party.

The use of Swastika ended when Germany surrendered at the end of World War II in May 1945.

However, there are still many neo-Nazi groups that exist today.

Response from the Jewish community.

The Associate Director of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies, David Saks, stated that the use of the Swastika it tantamount to spreading the Nazi ideology that it once represented.

“Quite rightly, this causes great offence, and, at the very least, it should be strongly discouraged, particularly in a country like ours, where there are deep sensitivities over displays of racial prejudice.”
