LATEST: Western Cape dam levels DROP as hot weather continues
The dam level stats for the Western Cape show that cumulatively the six major dams in the province have dipped below 75% of capacity.

The latest official dam level stats for the Western Cape show that cumulatively the six major dams in the province have dipped below 75% of capacity.
The six major dams in the Western Cape – the Berg River, Steenbras Lower, Steenberg Upper, Theewaterskloof, Voelvlei and Wemmershoek – all saw significant increases during last winter.
However, as the summer season continues, those levels have predictably dropped significantly.
Up on last year
The City of Cape Town uploaded its latest stats on Thursday, 20 February.
The latest figures show the six dams are a combined 74.8% of total storage.
That’s down from the 78.1% the previous week.
The current levels are also down on the same period a year ago when the combined percentage stood at 75.4%.
Theewaterskloof, which accounts for more than 50% of the province’s total dam capacity (480 188 MI of a total of 898 221 MI) is at 75.1% of capacity, while the next biggest dam, Voëlvlei (164 095 MI), is at 74.1%.
Western Cape residents need no reminding of life during the ‘Day Zero’ water crisis from mid-2017 to mid-2018.
