Body of missing beloved teacher found in Newlands Forest

The body of a retired teacher, who went missing while hiking in Newlands Forest over the weekend, has been found.

The body of Dhananjaya Naidoo was found during a search on Wednesday, 20 November.

He was 66.

He was found on the contour path in Newlands Forest where he had gone walking over the weekend.

Naidoo’s family extended their gratitude to those who volunteered to search the mountain and offered support.

Meanwhile, police have confirmed that the body was recovered.

‘An inquest was registered for further investigation,’ said SAPS spokesperson Wesley Twigg.

‘A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Education sector

Naidoo, a retired education official from the Western Cape Education Department, was a respected figure in the education sector.

He began his career as a mathematics teacher in Durban before moving to Cape Town, where he held a position at Rylands High School.

He later served as the principal of Sophumelela Secondary School in Philippi and eventually became a circuit manager.

Although retired for two years, Naidoo remained dedicated to the field of education, working as a mentor for school principals, a role in which he has been deeply involved since stepping down from his administrative position.

The South African website extends its condolences to the family and friends of Dhananjaya Naidoo.
