The N3 in KwaZulu-Natal is still closed due to heavy snow and hazardous driving conditions.

The N3 toll concession confirmed this as motorists travelling between Gauteng, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal have been stuck on the N3 since Friday, 20 September, due to heavy snowfall which has caused some roads to be closed.

Some road closures between Estcourt in KwaZulu-Natal and Harrismith in the Free State remain in place as rescue and recovery operations continue between Van Reenen’s Pass and Swinburne/Montrose ultra city.

KwaZulu-Natal Disaster Management teams are closely monitoring key routes, including the N3 between Harrismith and Tugela Toll and the R617 between Kokstad and Underberg.

In order to prioritise safety, the Border Management Authority (BMA) in coordination with other stakeholders, closed the Sani Pass, Boesmansnek, and Monontsha ports of entry until further notice.  Alternatively, motorists can use the Ficksburg port, Caledonspoort, Makhaleng, as well as Maseru Ports of entry to enter Lesotho.
