Five people were shot in Harare, Khayelitsha on Monday night, 10 October. The Cape Town police referred to the incident as a “mass murder” and said detectives are probing the shooting.
THREE PEOPLE SHOT AND KILLED IN KHAYELITSHA
Unknown suspects entered a home in Siphendule Crescent, Harare at approximately 20:05 and opened fire before running from the scene empty-handed, said South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut.
Three men – aged 24, 30 and 32 – were fatally wounded and two other men, who are both aged 30, were rushed to a hospital with critical gunshot wounds.
The motive for the shooting is yet to be established and no arrests have been made thus far. Traut said a 72-hour activation plan has been launched to mobilise necessary resources. “…an urgent appeal is made to the public for information that can assist police with the investigation,” he added. Tip-offs can be made via the Crime Stop hotline at 08600-10111.
Khayelitsha has been rocked by a number of mass shootings since 2021. Earlier this year, an alleged gang leader – Yanga ‘Bara’ Nyalara – linked to the extortion gangs believed to be behind the mass shootings was arrested.
