Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi tests positive for COVID-19

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi felt unwell on Thursday night and struggled to breathe, which prompted him to test for COVID-19.

The Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday after feeling unwell on Thursday night and struggling to breathe. 

LESUFI STRUGGLED TO BREATHE ON THURSDAY EVENING

According to Education spokesperson Steve Mabona Lesufi is in isolation and receiving treatment. 

“Lesufi felt unwell last night and struggled to breathe, which prompted him to go test for COVID-19 this morning and his results came back positive,” he said. 

Mabona said that in addition to being previously vaccinated, Lesufi is currently self-isolating in his home and feeling better subsequent to experiencing COVID-19 symptoms before testing.

THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH HIM SHOULD MONITOR THEMSELVES

“We wish to advise people who had been in contact with MEC Lesufi prior to him testing positive for COVID-19 to either monitor themselves for any flu-like symptoms or go get tested accordingly,” he added. 

Meanwhile, Mineral Resources and Energy Minister, Gwede Mantashe tested positive for COVID and is now isolating at home. The announcement comes just a week after President Cyril Ramaphosa also tested positive for the virus.

GWEDE SHOWED MILD SYMPTOMS AFTER TESTING POSITIVE

Ramaphosa tested positive for COVID-19 after he started feeling unwell after leaving the State Memorial Service in honour of former Deputy President FW de Klerk in Cape Town.

Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele said Ramaphosa is receiving treatment for mild COVID-19 symptoms.

PRESIDENT CYRIL RAMAPHOSA WAS TESTED ON SUNDAY

“The President started feeling unwell after leaving the State Memorial Service in honour of former Deputy President FW de Klerk in Cape Town earlier today (Sunday),” he said.
