Another 2.9 magnitude earthquake reported in Johannesburg
Yes, it’s confirmed! Another 2.9 magnitude earthquake rocked Gauteng in the early hours on Thursday, 29 June.
A 2.9 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Gauteng around 03:15 on Thursday, 29 June.
This comes just two weeks after another quake which caused extensive damage was reported also in Gauteng.
ANOTHER EARTHQUAKE REPORTED IN GAUTENG
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) the earthquake was nine kilometres south-south-east of Alberton.
Gauteng residents took to social media to share about the “tremor” they felt in the wee hours.
On 11 June another was reported at approximately 02:38 and registered a local magnitude of approximately 4.4, according to the South African Seismograph Network (SANSN).
Preliminary data from the Council for Geo Science indicated the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.7, while the USGS and European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) recorded it as 5. (driventheatre.com) 0.

βThe epicentre was located in the Boksburg area a few kilometres outside East Rand Proprietary Mine (ERPM), in the East Rand of Johannesburg,β said the CGS.
Earlier reports put the earthquake epicentre nearer to Alberton. According to the USGS, it was somewhere six kilometres south-south-east of the East Rand town.
