Fleeing cash-in-transit robber crashes and dies

A cash-in-transit robber was killed after a high-impact crash following a hot pursuit in a small coastal town outside Durban

A fleeing cash-in-transit robber crashed and died earlier today, Thursday, 17 November in Durban.

CASH-IN-TRANSIT ROBBER DOOMED ESCAPE

At around 15:45, ET Tactical Response says its teams responded to reports of a cash-in-transit robbery at Doonside Shopping Centre in Doonside, south of Durban.

“Two Units arrived and confirmed it was a positive robbery.”

THE CHASE THAT ENDED THE SUSPECT’S LIFE

“A description of the vehicle used was circulated on the CCPO network. One of our vehicles located the said vehicle and followed it,” the company reported.

While following the vehicle, additional resources were called in. It is reported that the Amanzimtoti SAPS Crime Prevention and a CCPO Unit quickly joined the pursuit.

“The cash-in-transit suspect noticed he was being followed and drove off at high speed. After a chase through Felikisi, the suspect crashed his vehicle during which he sustained serious injuries,” the company further reported.

“The suspect died a short while later on the scene. A firearm, as well as cash taken during the robbery, was recovered in the suspect’s vehicle,” the report read.

MATTER BEING INVESTIGATED BY THE POLICE

An inquest docket was opened by the SAPS, according to ET Tactical Response.

This incident comes a day after another robber was fatally wounded in Durban.
It is reported that the car hijacker was gunned down after the victim returned fire in self-defence.

“Reports from the scene are that a male approximately thirty years of age was found to have sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was declared dead on the arrival of paramedics,” Emer-G-Med responded.

Further information ascertained alleges that the deceased and his accomplices attempted to hijack a man at gunpoint when the victim fired a shot in defence of his life, killing the man.
