Behind BARS: Two arrested with stolen chocolate worth R1.5m
Cape Town police received a tip-off about a container full of chocolate bars being offloaded in Kensington.
Two suspects found themselves in a sticky situation on Saturday morning, 20 August, in Kensington, Cape Town, when the police caught them with a stolen cargo container.
TWO ARRESTED WITH CHOCOLATE WORTH MILLIONS
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut said Flying Squad members received intelligence about a container full of chocolate bars being offloaded at an address in Kensington.
“Upon arrival at the scene, two male suspects aged 54 and 60 were arrested for the possession of the stolen cargo valued at R1.5 million as well as presumed stolen home appliances,” said Traut.
The container was allegedly stolen at Cape Town Harbour last week, said the police spokesperson.
In an unrelated incident, Flying Squad members responded to a complaint about a truck hijacking in Saxonburg Industrial Park, Kuils River.
The investigation led members to an address in Lingalethu West. Three suspects – aged 37, 38 and 40 – were arrested. The suspects were found in possession of the hijacked truck and boxes of meat. The goods also had a value of R1.5 million.
Meanwhile in Hout Bay, Anti-Gang Unit members searched a house in Zalmander Street, where they found an unlicensed pistol – without a serial number – and 15 rounds of ammunition. A 50-year-old man was arrested.
“The suspects are all expected to make their respective court appearances in Cape Town, Kuils River and Wynberg on Monday, 22 August 2022,” said Traut.
