The City of Cape Town will maintain high-voltage infrastructure on Saturday, 5 April, leading to a planned power outage in parts of Elsies River and Goodwood. The work will begin at 18:00 on Saturday and is expected to be completed by 8:00 on Sunday, 6 April.

The city explained that the maintenance is necessary to ensure the long-term stability of the electricity network.

“The city apologises for any inconvenience,” said the city.

Precautions and safety measures for the power outage

Residents should treat all electrical installations as live throughout the power outage. The city advises switching off appliances and inverters before the power is restored. This is to prevent system overload and possible damage from power surges.

While the City aims to restore electricity by the scheduled time, officials warn that unforeseen complications could cause delays. Residents should check the City’s social media channels or contact the Call Centre at 0860 103 089 for updates.

Potential impact on nearby areas

Although the planned power outage primarily affects Elsies River and Goodwood, the city warns that nearby areas might also experience disruptions.

The City has assured residents that teams will work as quickly as possible to complete the maintenance within the announced timeframe.

“Our teams will work as quickly as possible to complete the work within the communicated times,” the city added.

“Should the power not be restored within the communicated timeframe, residents are advised to check the City’s official communication channels, including the City’s social media channels, or contact the Call Centre.”
