Ever wanted to become one of Takealot’s drivers? Here’s all you need to know about the job, plus how much you could possibly earn.
The delivery industry is booming in South Africa, and the introduction of grocery delivery services made it practically explode. With online shopping growing in popularity, a gap opened for more and more delivery drivers.
Launched in 2011, Takealot has become one of the giants in e-commerce, often looking for delivery drivers to partner with. This is to help them get the orders from the millions of shoppers on their platform sent out in record time. Takealot posted the job opening inviting potential drivers on their website, detailing the requirements and the benefits they provide. Here’s all you need to know.
HOW TO BECOME A TAKEALOT DRIVER
Takealot’s job offering invites interested parties to become a “driver partner.” MyBroadband reported on 14 November 2024 on the steps to take to become a delivery driver for Takealot, mentioning that drivers are hired on a contract basis. Applicants have the option to work full-time or part-time, and training is provided.
These are the requirements for applying that are listed on the Takealot site:
- South African ID or work permit for foreign nationals
- A smartphone with Android version seven or higher to be able to use the delivery app and GPS.
- A motor bike or light vehicleValid SA, national or international driver’s license
- Proof of address and banking details
- Vehicle registration form (RC1)
- Vehicle Roadworthy Certificate
- Clear criminal record
THE BENEFITS TAKEALOT DRIVERS ENJOY
Takealot drivers are offered benefits despite not being permanent employees. They include:
- Free training to successful applicants
- They operate Monday to Sunday, so you can take as much work as you want.
- There are premium rates offered over the weekend, Friday to Sunday.
- Personal injury insurance to ensure the safety of drivers. This covers them against personal injuries while on duty.
- Free road emergency response service access
Applicants are encouraged to fill in the online application form. They will then be connected with a branch closest to them.
HOW MUCH TAKEALOT DRIVERS EARN
Briefly News revealed the earning estimates for Takealot drivers in a report on 15 February 2024. Drivers are paid monthly not per trip, and can make between R6 416 and R8 000. Reviews by drivers on Glassdoor state that they can make an annual bonus of R6 000 through tips, commissions, bonuses, stock and profit sharing.
The working hours reportedly vary from one branch to another. There are various shifts and some are said to be 7:00 – 15:00 or 7:00 to 19:00. The overall rating by employees on Glassdoor and Indeed is 3.5.
