South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grant beneficiaries have shared on social media some of their experiences when using the Postbank Black Card.

According to some recipients, their cards get swallowed by ATM machines when trying to withdraw grants. The spokesperson for Postbank, Bongani Diako, explained what could be the reason behind this.

POSTBANK BLACK CARDS CAN BE USED AT ALL ATMS

Speaking to The South African, Diako stated that Postbank Black Cards work at all ATMs. According to the initial joint statement issued by Postbank and SASSA, this card works just like any other bank card.

“The new Postbank Black Cards work in all the National Payment System channels. That include ATMs, retailer’s point-of-sale machines and any place that accepts a bank card. So there is no waiting period for when they can be used for transactions.

“Social grant beneficiaries will continue enjoying the same benefits that they are getting from the Gold Cards when switching to the new Postbank Black Cards.

“These include one free card replacement per year and three free withdrawals in stores per month. Also, one free monthly statement over the counter,” the statement read.

POSSIBLE REASON FOR ISSUES WITH POSTBANK BLACK CARDS AT ATMS

Diako revealed to the publication a few reasons why SASSA beneficiaries might be experiencing issues with these cards at ATMs.

“The issue of someone’s card being swallowed by an ATM machine may be the result of the ATM user using the ATM incorrectly. For example, if someone enters a wrong ATM PIN number more than three times, their card will be retained by the ATM.

“The Postbank Black Cards work normally like any other bank card. It can be used to make purchases through swiping at retailers and requesting a cash back payment. The cards work in all ATMs available, irrespective of which bank’s ATM it is as it is interoperable,” he explained.

Withdrawing grants at retail stores is also an option for SASSA grant beneficiaries. Recipients are able to access their grants at any store of their choice.
