RIP: Mmusi Maimane pays tribute to Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi
Mmusi Maimane paid tribute to the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi who was confirmed to have died on Saturday morning, 9 September.
The popular Democratic Alliance member, Mmusi Maimane took to X (the social media formally known as Twitter) and paid tribute to the late Traditional Prime Minister to the Zulu Monarch, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi after it was announced that he died on Saturday morning, 9 September.
PRINCE MANGOSUTHU BUTHELEZI DIES
Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s death comes just weeks after his 95th birthday celebration. He had been hospitalised due to prolonged back pain, ENCA reported. The first democratic Minister of Home Affairs in South Africa, is said to have also spent some time in the Intensive Care Unit after having also suffered health complication.

On Saturday morning, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that Buthelezi had passed away.
“I am deeply saddened to announce the passing of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the Prince of KwaPhindangene, Traditional Prime Minister to the Zulu Monarch and Nation, and the Founder and President Emeritus of the Inkatha Freedom Party,” he shared.

Mmusi Maimane has since taken to X to share his tribute. He explained that he had worked with the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi as he extended his condolences to the Buthelezi family.
“Today is a painful day for South Africa and the end of an era. On behalf of @BuildOneSA. I wish to send my deepest condolences to the Buthelezi family on the passing of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi. Prince Mangosuthu shaped the body politic of our nation for over multiple decades. His contribution to the Zulu community is immeasurable, he was a custodian of knowledge and values,” he wrote.
“His leadership of the IFP and role in transition of our country has been a significant part of our democracy. I worked with Dr Buthelezi in parliament and we collaborated several times forging coalition agreements. He was a sharp thinker, always resolute, in service of the people. I send my thoughts and prayers to his family, the IFP, and the royal kingdom of the Zulu nation. May his soul rest in Peace,” Maimane added.
