Body of missing Joburg firefighter Takalani Makhavhu found
Takalani Makhavhu, 44, disappeared when his canoe capsized at the Klipdrift Dam during a fishing trip on Thursday, 2 September.
The body of City of Johannesburg firefighter and EMT Takalani Makhavhu was found on Wednesday, September 8. He went missing last week when his boat capsized during a fishing trip at Klipdrift Dam. The emergency services have been searching for him since his disappearance.
THE BODY OF TAKALANI MAKHAVHU FOUND
The South African Police Service’s (SAPS) Search and Rescue team recovered Makhavhu’s body on Tuesday.
The City of Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) announced the firefighter’s disappearance last week. The 44-year-old was reportedly on a fishing trip at the Klipdrift Dam in Potchefstroom in the North West when he disappeared on Thursday, 2 September.
Makhavu was reportedly fishing with his crew members when a strong wind came up and tragedy struck. It is believed that he drowned when his canoe capsized.
Makhavhu was an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and firefighter based at the Eldorado Park Fire Station in Johannesburg.
“Our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. May his soul Rest in Peace,” said the City of Johannesburg EMS.
