Approximately 15 areas are set to experience an 8-hour power outage in Johannesburg.

15 areas are set to experience an 8-hour power outage in Johannesburg starting from Wednesday, 5 March 2025 to Thursday, 13 March 2025. City Power Johannesburg stated that the planned power outage will last for eight hours in different areas in the city.
OUTAGE REASON
City Power Johannesburg stated that the outage was due to maintenance work on their electricity network for better service provision.
The City also urged customers to be cautious with their electricity supply points.
“As the power supply may be restored at any time, customers are urged to always treat their electricity supply points as live,” read the statement.
AFFECTED AREAS
At SA Clay Switching Station, the power outage will occur on Wednesday, 5 March 2025 from 8:00 to 16:00 and will affect the following suburbs:
- National Ceramics, including the NCG/NCN/NCAN lines
- Lenasia
- RWB Zuurbekom
At Commercial Switching Station, the power outage will occur on Wednesday, 5 March 2025 from 9:00 to 17:00 and will affect the following suburbs:
- Vodacom Commercial Park
At Noordwyk EXT 43, the power outage will occur on Tuesday, 11 March 2025 from 9:00 to 17:00 and will affect the following suburbs:
- Protea Street
- Alwyn
- Shell Filling Station
- Deoder Avenue
- Parts of 8th Street
- Westbrook
At Staugh Vorster Switching Station, the power outage will occur on Thursday, 13 March 2025 from 9:00 to 17:00 and will affect the following suburbs:
- 16th Road
- 2nd Road
- Old Pretoria Road
- Bavaria Road
- New Road
TWO MEN SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS OVER CABLE THEFT
Two foreign nationals have been sentenced to eight years for cable theft. Fortune Moyo (33) and Prince Mbazima (34) were sentenced and convicted by the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 20 February 2025.
The two convicts were caught red-handed digging up City Power cables on Bree Street in the inner city.
In other news, a 27-year-old suspect was arrested for tampering with essential infrastructure and cable theft along the N12 freeway in Naturena.
“A patrol van from Booysens SAPS apprehended the suspect in possession of a 2-metre-long, 16mm, 4-core pole-to-ground aluminium cable,” the statement read.
The suspect has been booked at Mondeor SAPS and is expected to appear before the local Magistrate’s court.
Another suspect was charged with possession of stolen infrastructure after being caught pushing a trolley loaded with both burnt and unburnt aluminium cable. The suspect, Abel Sihlangu (46) claimed that he found the cable in Riverlea.
In another separate incident, Thapelo Manduma was arrested after being caught with two accomplices digging up 53.5 metres of 185mm x-core copper cable on Carr Street in Newtown.
“While his two partners managed to escape, Manduma was caught and detained at Johannesburg Central Police Station,” the statement read.
