Five new Volkswagens on their way to South Africa in 2023
We take a look at five new Volkswagen new models destined to arrive in South Africa before the end of 2023, including the updated Touareg.
German carmaker Volkswagen will release five new models in South Africa before the end of 2023. The new Amarok, built alongside the Ford Ranger in Pretoria, is undoubtedly the most anticipated launch of the year.
The rest of the new models consist of new engines available in current model line-ups, including the Tiguan, T-Cross and Polo Sedan. A refreshed version of Volkswagen’s flagship SUV, the Touareg is destined to make an appearance in the last quarter of the year, according to CarMag.

Volkswagen sold 63 601 units in the local market with a total passenger car market share of 16.4%. These are the new Volkswagen models making their way to South Africa in 2023;
New Amarok – First quarter
As we mentioned, the all-new Amarok is a big deal for Volkswagen. The second-generation shares its architecture and engines with the Ford Ranger.
The new bakkie was launched in South Africa in the first quarter and has been on sale since then.
The Amarok will be available in Base, Life, Style, Aventura, and flagship PanAmericana derivatives. Only turbodiesel engines are available with power output ranging from 110kW to 184kW, according to Motorpress.

Tiguan TDI – Second quarter
A top-seller for Volkswagen, the Tiguan will be available with a turbodiesel option from July 2023. The mid-size SUV has garnered large appeal and is available with a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine.

T-Cross Trendline – Second quarter
Volkswagen’s popular T-Cross was introduced in 2019 and has been a strong seller for the brand. A new Trendline model will join the compact SUV’s range.

Polo Sedan TSI – Fourth quarter
The Polo Sedan is the only sedan offered by Volkswagen locally, and the addition of a new TSI model will add to its popularity. The four-door model has a large boot and space for five adults.
Touareg facelift – Fourth quarter
The updated Touareg is based on the Volkswagen Group’s PL71 platform and in third-gen form features enhanced high-tech features including an improved suspension and new IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights, according to the carmaker.
