Cape Town’s annual Naked Bike Ride participants told to ‘cover up’
This year’s participants in the World Naked Bike Ride in Cape Town which took place this weekend were told to ‘cover up’ by authorities…

This weekend, Cape Town cyclists stripped off in celebration of World Naked Bike Ride Day, which took place through the streets of Sea Point.
As the name suggests, cyclists had the option to bare it all in the name of charity and body positivity.
CAPE TOWN’S WORLD NAKED BIKE RIDE TURNS HEADS
On Saturday, 8 March, a procession of nude and semi-clothed cyclists celebrated World Naked Bike Ride Day in Cape Town.
The event – which kicked off in Sea Point – takes place in various countries around the world. Joining in on the action this year was popular bodypaint artist Cynthia Fleischmann.
According to a Facebook post, the event in Cape Town is “part of an international protest movement against fossil fuel dependency and consumerism. It is a fun way to network with people who want to make the world a better place”.
While the name suggests cyclists ride nude, the dress code is to ” attract attention to the cause”.
“It is your chance to become the entertainer and draw attention to your cause as part of a ‘protestival’ to celebrate feeling positive about your body, your planet, and its people.”
IS PUBLIC NUDITY LEGAL?
In another Facebook post, the South African World Naked Bike Ride organisation criticised the City of Cape Town and law enforcement over their terms and conditions for participants.
This included the stipulation that participants adhere to Sections 9 and 22 of the Sexual Offense Act 2007. This prohibited participants from “exposing” themselves to the public.
“They want to see more nipple caps, willy warmers, and body paint,” read the post.
In South Africa, public nudity is considered public indecency and is a criminal offense.
The city of Cape Town and SAPD sneaked two controversial additional conditions on participants and organizers of this…
