La-eeqah Jansen is a young girl from Manenberg who is determined to run in order to create a positive future for her family, and she’s encouraging a community in the process.
Known as the Zola Budd of the Western Cape, La-eeqah was selected as part of the Western Province team in the 100m and 150m sprint.
The barefoot runner was donated a pair of spikes by her school, but she insists that nothing has changed now that she wears shoes to run. Her running gives her a reason to hope and dream about changing her family’s future.
