Oh, to experience lockdown in one of these places. New World Wealth have compiled their latest report on financial trends in South Africa, with a particular focus on our richest citizens. They’ve also lifted the lid on the most expensive locations in the country, based on house prices and property valuations.
Where the rich live, and what it costs them
As ever, Cape Town dominates this list. Of the 12 locations featured, 10 of them are based in or near the Mother City. In fact, only one entry comes from outside the Western Cape. But despite the vast interest in these ostentatious dwellings, a poor performance from ZAR this year has hammered the property market:
“South Africa’s residential property market has performed poorly over the review period (2009 to 2019) with average prices declining by around 36% in US$ terms. It should be noted that the rand depreciated significantly during this period, which obviously contributed to the decline.”
