The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and Postbank recently announced that grant beneficiaries need to get Postbank Black Cards before the deadline.

After 28 February 2025, all Gold Cards will be blocked, according to a joint statement. But some grant recipients have found it difficult to locate a collection point near them to get their Postbank Black Card. Here’s what to do if you are also struggling.

SASSA GRANT BENEFICIARIES URGED TO SWITCH TO POSTBANK BLACK CARD

According to the joint statement from SASSA and Postbank, February was the last month recipients were able to receive grants using Gold Cards. After the deadline at the end of this month, none of the beneficiaries will be able to use this card.

There are numerous collection points for Postbank Black Cards in all provinces. However, some grant beneficiaries seem to struggle to find places near them to do the switch. But there are other options available.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU CAN’T FIND A POSTBANK BLACK CARD COLLECTION SITE NEAR YOU?

If you have not been able to locate a site to collect the Postbank Black Card close to you, your have another option. You can choose to use your existing personal bank account. Also, you can open a new one to continue to receive your grant.

STEPS TO TAKE TO START RECEIVING GRANT IN YOUR PERSONAL BANK ACCOUNT

Receiving your grant payments in your personal bank account takes just a few steps.

  • Open a new account at a bank of your choice or have an existing active bank account.
  • Obtain an Annexure C form from SASSA or download it from their website. The form will request that your grant be paid in the bank account you have chosen.
  • Get the Annexure C form filled at your bank.
  • If the bank account you are using is new, take the completed and stamped form with your banking details and a certified copy of your ID to a SASSA office near you.
  • If it’s an existing bank account, you will need to submit the form with three months bank statement and a certified copy of your ID.

Once completed, you will then start receiving your grant straight into your bank account. Payments are usually received on the first of every month.
