INFO on revised SASSA long-weekend grant payments
Following Social Relief of Distress (SRD) compensation on Good Friday, here are details on the remaining SASSA long-weekend grant payments …
It’s excellent news for SASSA long-weekend grant payments as the revised amounts come into effect on 1 April 2024. The South African Social Security Agency confirmed its March disbursement dates on its website recently. They will run from tomorrow Monday 25 March to Friday 29 March, which also happens to be Good Friday of the Easter long weekend.
Furthermore, the agency reminds grant recipients that next week’s SRD payments are still just R350. And not the increased R370 amount as announced by the Finance Minister for disbursement in late April. Thereafter, SASSA long-weekend grant payments for old-age pensioners, childcare and others will proceed as follows …
SASSA LONG-WEEKEND GRANT PAYMENTS
The Easter long weekend is a time for family to come together and have the first meaningful break of 2024. However, government grant recipients will have to pace themselves as the increased payouts only take place just after the long weekend. Combined with the ever-worsening cost-of-living crisis, Easter Sunday lunch may be a slightly muted affair this year.
Nevertheless, here’s when SASSA long-weekend grant payments are scheduled, plus the payout amount:
- Wednesday 3 April 2024: SASSA Older Persons Grants. R2 180 (over 60) and R2 200 (over 75).
- Thursday 4 April 2024: SASSA Disability Grants. R2 180.
- Friday 5 April 2024: SASSA Children’s Grants. R2 180 Child Dependency. Foster Care R1 180. Child Support R530.
SECURE YOUR SASSA GOVERNMENT GRANT NOW
Regarding the revised Social Relief of Distress grant and its meagre increase of R20 from late April, social society has called on the Department of Social Development to reject it. A large coalition of NGOs says government should pay closer to R480 to each of the 8.5-million beneficiaries to keep pace with inflation.
Whether you agree with the revised SASSA long-weekend grant disbursements or not, it’s understood that nearly double the amount of recipients apply for it each month. Half are turned away out of hand, often without clear knowledge of how to appeal the agency’s decision.
Therefore, we created an article on what to do in the event of a SASSA SRD rejection. You can click to find it HERE and see if you’ll receive backpay for the months you missed. Similarly, you can click HERE for details on Older Persons grants, and HERE for childcare grants.
